Primary Function
The City Recorder provides routine and complex administrative support to the City Manager, Mayor,City Council, and other Department Heads. Coordinates and attends all City Council meetings as Clerk; this includes preparing meeting agendas and packets as well as minutes and audio recordings of City Council proceedings. To make a request to include an item on the City Council agenda, please call or email the City Recorder.
Elections Official
The City Recorder is the local official who administers democratic processes such as elections, access to city records, and all legislative actions ensuring transparency to the public.
Records & Archives
The City Recorder acts as a compliance officer for state and local statutes including the Government Records Access and Management Act (GRAMA), and the Open and Public Meetings Act.
Municipal Code
The City Recorder is the custodian of the City Seal and has oversight of the publication of the City's Municipal Code (adopted ordinances).
Public Inquiries & Relationships
The City Recorder also manages public inquiries and relationships and provides support services to the City Administration and Council.
Historical Documents
The Recorder's Office maintains possession of original documents dating back to the time that Syracuse City was incorporated; however, we do not have an extensive repository of historical photos. Other entities, including the Utah State Archives and the Utah State Historical Society house many more historical documents and photos.
