Becoming a Firefighter
Syracuse City Fire Department tests for open positions as needed throughout the year. The minimum qualifications are:
- Ability to exhibit a high level of professionalism and confidentiality
- Able to work under stressful conditions
- Communicate effectively both orally and in writing
- Current Valid Class D Driver’s License
- Firefighter 1 and 2 Certification
- Hazardous Materials Awareness and Operations Certification
- Proficiency in report writing
- Utah Licensed Advanced Emergency Medical Technician (AEMT) or Nationally Registered AEMT
- Wildland Firefighter 2 Certification (UFRA Wildland FF1) within one year of hire
